Boxing superstar Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez has revealed a new condition for fighting Jake Paul, and he has also explained why their planned fight was scrapped.
When Jake Paul first got into the boxing sphere, it seemed like his end goal was to fight KSI. However, the ‘Problem Child’ has expanded his scope quite a bit, focusing on some of the biggest names in combat sports.
The likes of Conor McGregor, Tyson Fury, and Alex Pereria have all gotten onto his radar at some point. However, arguably his biggest target yet has been Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez. The Mexican superstar was against a fight at first, but he has softened his stance a fair bit.
They were seemingly set to fight on Cinco De Mayo in Las Vegas, however, Canelo scrapped that at the last minute. He penned a four-fight deal with Riyadh Season instead, putting a fight with Jake way off the map.
Canelo won’t fight Jake until he retires
The super-middleweight champion had been quiet on the fight being canceled, leaving Turki Alalshikh to mock Jake with a message of: “Canelo only fights real fighters.”
Well, now Canelo has lifted the lid on things and revealed when he plans to fight the YouTuber-turned-boxer.
“I just want to continue making history. I don’t even call [boxing Paul] a fight, it’s more of an event than a fight. That event can wait until I retire,” he told CBS Sports after signing up to fight William Scull.
Jake Paul went toe-to-toe with one of boxing’s greatest legends on November 15.
Canelo has said similar in the past about being open to fighting Jake once he is retired. Though, the ‘Problem Child’ has eyed it up as a world title fight at some point.
Jake doesn’t have his next fight lined up just yet, but he has been targeting big names.
He revealed that Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather would want him to weigh 160lbs for them to fight. “It’s not even physically possible,” he said on his brother Logan’s YouTube channel.
So, we’ll just have to wait and see what happens.
