Jake Paul’s camp has hit back after claims that the YouTuber-turned-boxer has been ‘blocked’ from a boxing world title fight.
After losing to Tommy Fury back in 2023, Jake Paul changed the path of his boxing career. The social media superstar started fighting boxers with decades of experience instead of crossover fighters.
He has racked up some impressive wins in that time, defeating Andre August, Ryan Bourland, Mike Tyson, and, most recently, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.
That win over Chavez Jr, the former WBC Middleweight champion, led to Jake getting a world ranking from the WBA. As long as he has that ranking, he is eligible to fight for titles in the Cruiserweight division.
Jake Paul reportedly ‘blocked’ from title fight
Prior to fighting the former world champion, Jake had revealed that he was in talks with Badou Jack, the current WBC Cruiserweight champion, for a future fight.
Infamous boxing promoter Don King then claimed that Jake had asked his fighter, Noel Mikaelian, to step aside from his shot at Jack so that the YouTuber-turned-boxer could fill the spot.
However, Jake’s team have denied that claim. “Another fabricated statement by Don King,” MVP co-founder Nakisa Bidarian posted on X (formerly Twitter). “There have been ZERO discussions with Don or Team Noel or anyone regarding step aside.”
Jake has stayed quiet on the claims himself, letting his team do the talking. However, he is unlikely to remain silent for too long – thats just the way he is.
The ‘Problem Child’ has already had talks about some big fights too, most notably with Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez. He has been trying to position himself for a title clash for a while, so it isn’t too ridiculous.
It remains to be seen if he’ll make it happen, however.
