Earlier this week, the release date of the upcoming Road House remake was confirmed, as the film will be (somewhat controversially) hitting Prime Video on March 21.
The reason that the release of Road House has garnered attention in recent weeks is reports that star Jake Gyllenhaal and director Doug Liman were frustrated with Amazon for not giving the film a theatrical run and even showed it to Jeff Bezos on a yacht in an effort to sway the studio chief.
Despite their best attempts, Road House will remain a streaming-only film, and in addition to its release date, the first official still from the movie has been released and sees Jake Gyllenhaal looking absolutely jacked as a UFC fighter turned bouncer.
The original Road House was directed by Rowdy Herrington, released in 1989, and famously starred the late Patrick Swayze in the lead role.
Alongside Gyllenhaal, the Road House remake also stars Daniela Melchior, Billy Magnussen, Jessica Williams, Darren Barnet, Conor McGregor, and more.
In addition to Road House, director Doug Liman has also helmed films such as Swingers (1996), The Bourne Identity (2002), Mr. & Mrs. Smith (2005), Jumper (2008), Edge of Tomorrow (2014), and American Made (2017).
Road House is just one of many upcoming projects for the 43-year-old Gyllenhaal, as he’s also attached to roles in films such as Prophet, Francis and the Godfather, The Division, The Anarchists vs ISIS, and a couple of Guy Ritchie-directed movies.
Gyllenhaal has also been attached to the HBO series The Son from Dune filmmaker Denis Villeneuve, Presumed Innocent, and Lake Success.
