Jack Black gets “lost in a corn maze of bass” when his potluck jam session of Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers’ “Free Fallin’ spirals out of control as more and more bass players inexplicably join him on stage.
The sketch, from this week’s Saturday Night Live, was clearly aimed at a specific demographic — and they’re celebrating the recognition this morning. “There are tears of joy streaming down the faces of college bass players everywhere. You are finally seen,” wrote one commenter on the video’s YouTube page. Added another: “Bassist here, love to see the diverse representation of our… vivid community.” (Editor’s Note: Now might also be a good time to plug our Top 100 Bassists list.)
Along with “Bass Lake,” other highlights of the Black-hosted SNL episode included a music video called “Goth Kid on Vacation” which saw the actor/musician parody My Chemical Romance, and a bonkers Flamin’ Hot Preparation H commercial.
