Why are J. Cole Kendrick Lamar fighting?

The beef started when Kendrick’s guest verse on Future and metro Boomin’s ‘Like That’ saw the rapper taking shots at J.Cole and Drake.

On the track, Kendrick took aim at the two rappers for associating their success with his in their track, First Person Shooter.

On First Person Shooter, Cole boasted: “Love when they argue the hardest MC / Is it K-Dot? Is it Aubrey? Or me? / We the big three like we started a league.”

But Kendrick hit back with a diss on Like That: “Mother**** the big three, n****, it’s just big me.”

While Drake has subtly referenced Lamar’s diss during his ongoing tour, J. Cole opted for a more direct approach.

What did J. Cole say about Kendrick Lamar in 7 Minute Drill?

J. Cole dropped a surprise release of his new album Might Delete Later, which features a response to Kendrick’s diss on his concluding song 7 Minute Drill.

Cole opened by addressing Kendrick’s diss: “I got a phone call, they say that somebody dissing / You want some attention, it come with extensions.

“He still doing shows but fell off like ‘The Simpsons’ / Your first s*** was classic, your last s*** was tragic /Your second shit put n****s to sleep but they gassed it .

“Your third s*** was massive and that was your prime / I was trailing right behind and I just now hit mine.”

J. Cole also references Kendrick’s sporadic releases of The Heart series, suggesting that without the diss, nobody would be talking about his rival’s music.

J. Cole informs Kendrick that this is just a “warning shot” and the gloves could come off entirely for more if the West Coast legend wants to go there.

He rapped: “He averagin’ one hard verse like every thirty months or somethin’/ If he wasn’t dissin’, then we wouldn’t be discussin’ ’em.”

The No Role Modelz rapper also announced he’s ready for a rap face-off with Kendrick, “But push come to shove on this mic I will humble him.”
