The origin story of Pennywise the Clown is coming to HBO Max (yep, that name is back), thanks to It: Welcome to Derry. In season one, we will go decades back to discover how all of this strangeness began for a town’s children. And if the trailer for Welcome to Derry is any indication, we are in for a terrifying trip back to 1962.
This season is actually the first of a planned three-season arc, with the latter two going further back in time to 1935 and 1908, respectively. So we will likely end this season with more questions that need answers.
And we will also have to hope that Warner Bros. doesn’t cancel the series before its story can come to completion. Either way, we are cautiously optimistic about It: Welcome to Derry based on its trailer. It shows a new family moving into Derry, Maine, where kids are going missing at a relatively rapid rate. At first, the neighbors seem cold and you’d assume racism because, well, this town seems very white and the new family is Black. That’s probably a part of it, but certainly only scratches the surface of what’s going down.
A few intrepid youth realize that murder is likely the source of these mysteries, but they are told to not stick their noses where they don’t belong. Everything happening feels unsettling and creepy to the max before we finally get a glimpse of Pennywise at the end. Good stuff!
What Is the Release Date for It: Welcome to Derry?
