The buzz around ‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’ is only growing louder, especially after Sydney Sweeney was reportedly spotted on the film’s New York City set earlier this week. The Emmy-nominated ‘Euphoria’ star has yet to confirm any involvement, but the evidence is starting to speak for itself.
On August 6, paparazzi photographed a figure, who was believed to be Sweeney, exiting a trailer in oversized jeans and a powder blue hoodie, with her face hidden beneath a large umbrella. The same day, Emily Blunt was also seen shielding herself from the rain as she stepped out of another trailer nearby. While reps for both Sweeney and 20th Century Studios haven’t said much, the sightings were enough to ignite fan speculation.
While her exact role remains a mystery, many are guessing she may either be playing a new character or making a surprise cameo appearance. The highly anticipated sequel brings back nearly all of its core cast, including Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci, among them.
They’re joined this time around by newcomers like Kenneth Branagh, Lucy Liu, Justin Theroux, B. J. Novak, Simone Ashley, Rachel Bloom, and Pauline Chalamet. Celebs like Ciara and Ashley Graham have also been spotted on set, sparking even more curiosity.
Filming has been underway across New York City, with sightings in Hudson Yards and the Long Island Bar in Brooklyn. On July 29, Streep and Blunt were seen shooting scenes in Manhattan. Just a week later, Anne Hathaway was photographed filming with newcomer Patrick Brammall.
According to Variety, the sequel follows Miranda Priestly as she battles to stay relevant in a collapsing print publishing industry while going head-to-head with Blunt’s character, now a high-powered executive.
While Sweeney’s involvement hasn’t been officially confirmed, her presence on set aligns with the kind of strategic casting that could give the film a fresh edge.
Sweeney remains booked and busy. In addition to her work on ‘Euphoria,’ she’s got several projects in the pipeline. She’s starring in ‘The Housemaid,’ a psychological thriller directed by Paul Feig and co-starring Amanda Seyfried, set for a December 25 release.
She’s also playing boxer Christy Martin in an upcoming biopic directed by David Michôd. “Christy Martin has been such an incredible transformation—physically, mentally, and emotionally. It’s been one of the most immersive transformations I’ve ever made, and being able to have Christy on set with me almost every day has been inspiring and so emotional at the same time,” Sweeney told Cosmopolitan back in February.
