A few things are certain every Cannes Film Festival: great films, glamorous fashion, ostentatiously long standing ovations, and a gaggle of loiterers just outside the theater looking to find their way in. For this year’s 78th edition, where Jafar Panahi’s thriller It Was Just An Accident won the Palme d’Or—a record sixth consecutive Palme win for its distributor, Neon—we asked the Spanish photographer Francesc Planes to document it all, from the stars to the scalpers. The result is a panoramic look at Cannes as it really is: stylish, sunburnt, and crawling with canines.
