WITH the cost of everyday essentials going up and up, it is important to look after the pennies right now.
While every penny counts, one woman has been called ‘miserly’ after she revealed she charges her boyfriend ‘rent’ because when he stays over.
Though it is always good to be on top of your finances, we are not sure Martin Lewis would recommend this
Marystella ‘Malle’ Gómez made the eyebrow-raising revelation last Sunday (April 28), during her appearance on the Los Platos Sucios podcast.
Despite being in a loving relationship with her other half, Malle explained that she charges him for every weekend they spend together.
She pointedly told listeners, “He stays over on weekends, and I still charge my fee.
“I mean, are the services here free? Is the water here free? I don’t see anything wrong with it.”
While her extreme penny-pinching might raise some eyebrows, the young woman seems to have reaped the rewards as her Instagram is filled with pictures of her travelling the world.
According to the Colombian influencer, she has even convinced her pals to do the same with their partners.
Shockingly, she then told podcaster Ana María Cardona and fellow influencer Isabela Rivera: “If a man is not helping you have a better financial life, then what are you doing?”
Needless to say, her attitude has raised a few eyebrows and many saying they’d be outraged if their partner did this – including those on the podcast.
“I couldn’t be maintained, I’d get bored,” explained Isabella, to which Ana María said: “If a guy ever charges me a fee, forget it.”
On social media, most users disagreed with Malle’s stance and labelled her an ‘extreme miser’.
“No, it’s like if my boyfriend charged me every time he picked me up and took me home,”
Surprisingly though, there were some people on Malle’s side.
One person even revealed: “Before we lived together, mine would always stay from Thursday to Monday.
“One day I told him he had to pay for utilities, and so it was done.”
However, this young woman isn’t the only one who has taken penny-pinching to the extreme.
Despite being a multi-millionaire, Aimee Elizabeth refuses to buy tuna and opts for cat food as it is 25p cheaper (yes, you read that right).
Appearing on TLC’s Extreme Cheapskates, the Las-Vegas woman even refuses to take warm showers so she can save $80 (£66) on her water per month.
She will even use dish sponges until they are ragged, which supposedly helps her stick to her monthly budget of $1,000 (£800).
While we are all for women being in control of their money, we think we would just buy the tuna instead.
How much do your bills cost you?
If you are tempted to start charging your partner rent, you might also want to know how much utilities are too.
According to the experts at USwitch, the average electricity bill is £772.74 per year.
Meanwhile, you can expect to pay £853.30 per year for gas – with neither of these fees including the annual standing charges (ouch!).
Money Saving Expert also reports that you can expect to pay an eye-watering £445 for water too.
Maybe Malle isn’t seeming so extreme after all…
