Keen to clap back to the keyboard warriors, Abbie, who recently revealed that she is taking her children out of school for an extra six weeks, took to social media to share the reality of being married to a footballer.

Abbie, who is a mum-of-two, responded to a comment from a hater that read: ‘Imagine being a professional footballer and still shopping in Primark.’

Posting on social media, Abbie shared a clip with the caption ‘can’t win’ and said: “The stereotypes around footballers are absolutely crazy and the expectations of them are from one end of the scale to the other.”

Abbie claimed that she is even slammed for where she buys her clothes, as she added: “I’m either a gold digger if we’re shopping at Flannels, but I’m an embarrassment if I shop in Primark.”

Abbie opened up about the comments people have said to her, as she continued: “I’ve been told when his money stops that I will leave him.

“I’ve also been told ‘who is he, a plumber makes more than him’. So which is it?

“The guessing of the wages and criticising the family for where they shop really has to stop because it literally is just a boy playing football.”

Abbie then told Fabulous: “I think there is a huge stereotype around footballers and the expectations are ridiculous.”

The TikTok clip, which was posted under the username @abbieguy, has clearly left many open-mouthed, as it has quickly racked up 221,800 views.

Social media users were quick to share their thoughts in the comments, as many rushed to support Abbie.

How much do league 2 players earn?

Specific figures for the entirety of League Two are not publicly available.

However, Salary Sport reported the weekly and annual wages for the 100 highest earners in League Two in 2022-23.

Of the 100 highest-paid players in the fourth tier of English football, only 19 earned north of £200,000 per year.

Of the top 100, there was an average annual salary of £174,200, which is elevated considerably by the top few earners.

The median salary among that group comes in at £140,400, earned by both Rhys Oates and Richie Smallwood.

Inevitably, the League One salaries are going to be above what is seen in League Two.

The average League Two salary will fluctuate by a significant amount year-to-year depending on the players and clubs in the division.

A third commented: “People will always have something to say.”

Whilst someone else expressed: “People are just jealous, he’s living life and they’re not.”

At the same time, another user chimed in: “Just ignore them.”
