A TAYLOR Swift fan who recreates the singer’s most iconic looks has not let the haters get to her by remembering the words from her favorite song.
Sofia Montañez, 24, has amassed 45,000 loyal followers on Instagram, gaining attention from her fellow Swifties by dressing up in Taylor‘s best-known outfits like her cheerleader uniform in the Shake it Off music video and her ringleader costume from the Red tour.
“I’ve been into fashion since I was pretty young and I admired Taylor’s styling most of all because it was so easy to replicate with cheaper pieces,” Sofia exclusively told The U.S. Sun.
She continued: “During my teen years, I used to spend a lot of time reading magazines and gossip blogs about celebrities.
“Whenever I went to thrift and I saw a random piece and remembered she owned something like that I bought it.”
Sofia said that during the pandemic she had a lot of free time on her hands so with the encouragement of her father, she started posting fan content in February 2021.
In January 2023, Sofia showed off a replication of Taylor’s dress from the 2018 American Music Awards red carpet that emulates her song Mirrorball from her 2020 Folklore album.
Sofia wrote in the caption of her post: “Because I’m a mirrorball, I’ll show you every version of yourself tonight,” which are the lyrics to Taylor’s song.
The Swiftie also turns to Taylor’s lyrics when she receives backlash from haters on her account.
“At first like for everybody who takes the risk to expose themselves on the internet, it was pretty rough,” she said.
Sofia added: “Haters tend to have a deal with the fact that I’m Latina and of course, I’m aware I don’t look like Taylor.”
The fan also said that English is not her first language and that she is still learning, so trolls also get angry if she misspells something on social media.
“But in moments like those I remember my favorite lyrics from Taylor, ‘I could build a castle out of all the bricks they threw at me.'”
These lyrics are from Taylor’s 2014 song New Romantics which was released on the deluxe version of her album titled: 1989.
With Taylor’s encouraging music in her mind, Sofia turns “their hate to motivation to pay more attention during my classes or educate myself.”
However, “If the comment is pure hate with no constructive criticism I just block them,” she said. “There’s no case in wasting energy on them and I keep focus on the people who support me.”
Sofia, who has been a Swiftie since she was 14 years old, does have a supportive following and has even been recognized by the singer herself.
“I’ve been lucky to get noticed by her two times on TikTok and a couple more by her team,” Sofia said.
