One influencer shared her newfound source of income, a side hustle that involves watching pets.
Influencer Taylor (@workremotewithtaylor) said she has become a pet sitter.
She said she uses an app to make “$1200 a month” watching people’s pets.
She shared the tip in a video entitled “side hustles I wish I knew about sooner.”
THE JOB
Taylor said she and her partner used Rover, an app that allows people to find petsitters.
She said that after just weeks, she got $800 worth of bookings.
“We love hanging out with dogs so much,” she said, making it a fun side hustle for her.
“It’s so amazing that we get to do what we love,” she added. “Now it’ll pay our rent every single month.”
Some people in the comments had mixed feelings about the app, however.
“I got rover monthssssssss ago and still haven’t gotten a booking,” one wrote.
Others said they found the same side hustle.
“I’m making more than 2k this month on Rover,” they said. “Best side hustle by far.”
“I’ve done this but I found it exhausting,” another said. “Plus we had someone drop their dog off without any food. I didn’t mind giving them some of our dogs food but”
Taylor’s video got over 120,000 likes on TikTok.
Side hustles and tax implications
The extra income made from side hustles may need to be reported to the IRS.
If you receive more than $600 in gross payouts from a selling platform like eBay, the site will issue you a Form 1099-K to use in your tax return.
Individuals should calculate their adjusted gross income, taxable earnings, and deductions for the year.
Once they have that, they can use the 1040-ES form to calculate estimated taxes.
