Dune: Part Two is getting a lot of praise ahead of its theatrical release. The film has yet to hit the screens and has already become one of the highest-rated films on some platforms. Meanwhile, director Denis Villeneuve has shed some light on the film’s threequel, and the fans will have to wait longer for its release. Keep scrolling to know why.
The movies are based on the novels by Frank Herbert. It is the story of a gifted young man, Paul Atreides, born into a great destiny, who must travel to the most dangerous planet in the universe to ensure the future of his family and people. There is conflict over the planet’s supply of resources, and those who can conquer their fear will survive. The first two films focus on that.
The third film will allegedly be based on Dune Messiah, the second installment in Frank Herbert’s sci-fi novel. According to that, Paul Atreides is now the Emperor of the known universe following his ascension to the throne at the end of ‘Dune.’ Therefore, a gap will exist between Dune 2 and Dune 3’s release. Denis Villeneuve is in no hurry to make the third installment. According to the novel, Messiah begins twelve years after Dune; hence, the wait is valid.
In a recent interview with The Times, Denis Villeneuve opened up about Dune 3’s release and said, “There is absolutely a desire to have a third one, but I don’t want to rush it. The danger in Hollywood is that people get excited and only think about release dates, not quality.” It was previously reported that Dune 3’s screenplay was almost done.
On the other hand, some reports on social media platforms claim that Dune 2 is allegedly the highest-rated film on IMDb with a 9.4/10 rating. Another account claimed it opened to a 4.5 on Letterboxd, making it one of the highest-rated films on the platform. The film is expected to collect $60-$80 million in its domestic debut. The first part was re-released this month and added an impressive amount to its worldwide collection. Dune: Part One has earned $433.79 million globally and is currently available on Netflix.
