In the trailer for A24’s new horror movie Heretic, Hugh Grant cheerily invites a pair of Mormon missionaries into his home — only to turn the tables and trap them in a sadistic game.
Sophie Thatcher (Yellowjackets) and Chloe East (The Fabelmans) play the missionaries, who are fooled into thinking Grant’s wife is present and that he’s open to being converted. When he goes to “check on the pie,” however, it becomes clear he was just putting on an act.
“I won’t keep you if you wish to leave,” Grant says, after walking them to a pair of closed doors labeled belief and disbelief. “But I want you to choose which door to go through, based on your faith.”
As the women make their choice, Grant issues an ominous warning: “It will make your hearts beat faster. It may even make you want to die.” However, he promises that they will “witness a miracle.”
Heretic was written and directed by Scott Beck and Bryan Woods, best known for penning A Quiet Place. The film is coming to theaters sometime this fall.
