Revealing why, John explained that he had been hospitalised due to pneumonia.

The caption read: “We’re heartbroken to postpone our South Africa shows. This country means so much to us, and we were so excited to create more memories with you.

“Sadly, my doctor has advised rest and recovery.

“Thank you for your understanding—we’ll make it worth the wait when we return in March 2025!”

The band shared the rescheduled tour dates, including Cape Town on March 25, Durban on March 27, and Pretoria on March 29.

John could be seen lying in bed with a cap on, as he said: “I am truly sorry that I cannot be there.

“I’m stuck here for a day or two, but we’re working on getting back down there as fast as we can.”

He continued: “I will keep you informed about that and I’m just really sorry that we couldn’t do this but we will make it up to you guys.”

The music star ended the video by thanking fans for their patience.

Another note at the end of the video read: “All tickets will remain valid for the rescheduled dates, and ticket holders will receive clear instructions on how to confirm their attendance or request a refund.

“Tickets are automatically valid for the new dates and are fully protected with Webtickets.”

In the comments, Goo Goo Dolls’ fans shared their concern, as one person wrote: “My heart just dropped seeing you on this hospital bed.

“Please take care of yourself, we love you and hope for a speedy recovery.”

Another person added: “Dude you are one of the hardest working touring musicians of all time. You don’t have to apologize to anybody.

“Hope you get better soon sir, wishing you a speedy recovery.”

A third said: “John, please get better soon. I’ve learned guitar since I was a kid because of you. Much love from Calgary.”

A fourth fan echoed: “So sorry to hear this. Pneumonia is no joke and your health is top priority. Wishing you a speedy recovery.”

In 1998 the US rockers released their signature track, Iris, which went on to sell more than a million copies in the UK alone.

The Goo Goo Dolls are also known for tracks including Slide and Black Balloon.

John previously underwent a huge lifestyle change and later opened up about his decision to go sober.

He told Metro: “The point that I got to was so dark, it was bad. I was completely counterproductive.

“Luckily everybody hung together with me.

“It was a little weird when I first got sober because everybody would go out to dinner, and nobody would drink.

“And everybody would be texting under the table ‘meet me at the bar after dinner, I think John’s gonna leave!’”

He also revealed playing Glastonbury is still on their bucket list, adding: “If I was asked, I definitely wouldn’t say no. That would be amazing.”

Their next scheduled gig is December 14 in Florida for Live Fest, and they’ll then head over to New York.

The band is due to touch down in Australia for a run of shows in February and March.
