Universal Pictures is psyched about Christopher Nolan’s upcoming adaption of The Odyssey, to say the least. During the studio’s recent presentation at CinemaCon in Las Vegas,  Jim Orr, the studio’s distribution chief, said that Iliad author Homer himself would be proud of it.

After winning a ton of Academy Awards, including Best Director and Best Picture, for Oppenheimer, acclaimed director Christopher Nolan is embarking on what’s surely the most ambitious project of his career in adapting The Odyssey, one of the oldest pieces of existing literature.

While presenting at CinemaCon — an event in which studios get theater owners excited about their upcoming projects — Orr said that The Odyssey, currently in production across Europe and Africa, is “a visionary, once-in-a-generation cinematic masterpiece that Homer himself would quite likely be proud of.”

Although it’s certainly understandable that Universal is gassed up about Nolan’s The Odyssey, the idea of Homer — an ancient Greek poet from roughly 2,775 years ago — watching a movie, let alone a Nolan-directed film in an IMAX theater, is a hilarious visual nonetheless.

The Odyssey, currently scheduled to hit theaters on July 17, 2026, predictably features a star-studded ensemble cast led by Matt Damon, with reports indicating that the cast is as follows: Damn as Odysseus, Tom Holland as Telemachus, Zendaya as Athena, Charlize Theron as Circe, Anne Hathaway as Penelope, Benny Safdie as Agamemnon, and Lupita Nyong’o as Clytemnestra.

Additional cast members include Robert Pattinson, Jon Bernthal, Benny Safdie, John Leguizamo, Elliot Page, Himesh Patel, Bill Irwin, Samantha Morton, Jesse Garcia, Will Yun Lee, Rafi Gavron, Shiloh Fernandez, Mia Goth, Corey Hawkins, Nick E. Tarabay, Jimmy Gonzales, Maurice Compte, Michael Vlamis, Iddo Goldberg, Josh Stewart, Cosmo Jarvis and Ryan Hurst.
