Highway becomes mozzarella mess after tractor-trailer crash covers road in cheese

A stretch of Interstate 80 in Pennsylvania turned into a dairy disaster after a multi-truck crash spilled hundreds of boxes of shredded mozzarella cheese across the highway.

The incident occurred around 5 a.m. on July 2, prompting a full closure of the eastbound lanes near Snow Shoe, PA. According to the Snow Shoe Fire Company, the crash involved three tractor-trailers and created a cheesy debris field spanning over 200 yards.

One of the trucks was carrying a full load of shredded mozzarella, while another was hauling sanitation wipes, which ironically could have helped with cleaning up.

For cheese lovers, this was a nightmarish sight to behold.

Photos released by the fire department show an apocalyptic cheese scene of mozzarella coating the road, shredded boxes everywhere, and emergency crews working to clean up the mess.

“The trailer hauling the cheese was split wide open with debris all over the roadway,” the department reported. Despite the chaos, no injuries were reported, and no hazardous materials were involved.

That’s a lot of cheese.

Unfortunately for cheese lovers, none of the mozzarella was salvageable.

“All cheese will be headed to the landfill as the load was deemed unsalvageable due to being unrefrigerated for hours,” the department added.

This isn’t the first time a highway has turned into a cleanup nightmare in 2025. Back in April, a semi-truck crash in Texas spilled 8 million dimes across the road, shutting down traffic for nearly 14 hours.
