MARRIED to Real Estate has been cancelled after four seasons – leaving fans devastated.
The HGTV series followed real estate broker Egpyt Sherrod and contractor Mike Jackson as they turned their dream neighborhoods into real life.
The married couple announced the end of the series on social media and revealed it wasn’t their decision.
They said: “Mike and I just landed back in the States after an unforgettable family trip through the Mediterranean, and we’re met with unexpected news: HGTV has decided not to move forward with Married to Real Estate.
“While the chain of events leading up to this is disheartening, we are deeply grateful.
“Grateful for four incredible seasons. Grateful for our amazing crew and supportive fans.
“Grateful that our businesses continue to thrive. And most of all-grateful that we are still very much married to real estate (and to each other).”
The couple hinted there was more to tell and problems behind the scenes.
They addded in a joint statement: “There’s more to say, and we’ll share soon. But for now, know this: not all setbacks are what they seem.
“Some blessings show up in disguise. We’ve been here before. We’ll keep counting those blessings-and keep it moving. Stay tuned.”
The post was captioned: “Sometimes GOD will rip you out of a situation to set you up for your next!”
Filmed in Brookhaven, Georgia where the couple closely resides, the duo worked together to not only renovate old homes but to sell them to families who were passionate about preserving the neighborhood’s beauty.
Viewers loved the transparency of the couple’s work life as they balanced being full-time parents to three children
The third series attracted 16.6 million viewers, and a fourth season ended in May.
Fans were shocked by the news, and one said: “Literally the ONLY show I watch on HGTV! Sounds like a wonderful opportunity for a YouTube or Netflix platform instead.”
Another commented: “Take your show to YouTube and watch it blow up, God got you!”
After reading all the comments, Mike added his own beneath the post.
He reassured fans: “God makes no mistakes. However, people and opinions do. We’ll discuss that on a later date though.
“We thank all the FAMS for rocking with us through it all. We appreciate the love and support. We’re not done! We got us.”
He continued: “If I can’t control I’m not stressing it, If I can control it, I’m not stressing it.
“Again, thank you for the support, the repost, the engagement and more. We’re not done. We’re about to refocus our focus, and mentally reset. Stay tuned.
“Be sure to subscribe to our YouTube page for any updates, podcast post, new ventures etc.”
In an interview with HGTV, the couple revealed how their show idea bloomed during the pandemic.
The design duo dreamt of living in Brookhaven, in the suburbs of Atlanta, but didn’t believe they could afford it.
Coupling their occupational talents, Egypt and Mike decided to take on the challenge.
Egypt told HGTV: “We’re both running our respective businesses from the kitchen counter, and we have our kids in virtual school at the other end.
“It was a little bit of a zoo here, but we were getting it done, and then Mike said, ‘Well, let’s film this.’
“And we started making people laugh on social media with our daily shenanigans – trying to work and balance home life.
“Our management said, ‘Y’all really have something here, you should shoot a sizzle reel.’
“So we did that and sent it to HGTV, and they loved it.”
