Hey Violet have shared their latest single ‘Best Imposter’ – a relatable new track that delves into self-doubt and the feeling of imposter syndrome.
The track marks the rock trio’s second new release of the year, following their melodic ‘Uncomplicated’ single, which arrived on Valentine’s Day.
Prior to that, the band had shared the equally catchy ‘i should call my friends’, which not only featured production work from The Maine’s John O’Callaghan but also marked their first release under Hopeless Records.
Their latest single, ‘Best Imposter’, explores the pressures of life today, in the age of social media and instant gratification, in which insecurities run high.
Speaking about the track and its key themes, lead singer Rena Lovealis has shared:
“For a long time, I’ve grappled with a lot of deeply-held insecurities and how those show up in my life. I deal with a lot of self-doubt.”
“‘Best Imposter’ is about experiencing intense imposter syndrome. It gives some insight into what Nia and I felt growing up, being in this in between stage where we’re sort of from New York and also sort of from California, and sort of millennial, but sort of Gen Z.
“We always felt like we were floating in the strange world of close, but not quite, and that really put a weight on us when people would question if we deserved certain opportunities that the band got. Like ‘Damn, are we supposed to be here?’
“At the end of the day, someone will always have something to say. It’s about validating our own voices and knowing we deserve a seat at the table, in spite of any self-doubt or insecurity or anxiety.”
