Winning on a slot machine can make you feel like the luckiest person in the world. But is it really about luck? Many believe that slot machines are rigged, but a former casino manager has gone viral on TikTok after clearing this up once and for all.

“This is how casinos choose who wins or loses on slot machine,” the ex-casino manager, who runs the popular @casinoadvantage101 TikTok account, starts.

He continues, “Actually, this is a big misconception. Casinos cannot choose who wins or loses on a slot machine. It’s simply just not possible. I was a slot manager for nine years. And I can tell you 100% that casinos cannot control who wins or loses on a slot machine.”

He goes on to claim that slot machines are controlled by a random number generator. The TikToker, who boasts 160,000 followers, says that this is “the only thing that selects the winning and losing combination.”

He adds, “Every spin is random because of this. Even in the few casinos that are server-based, those machines still are controlled by the random number generator.”

Where Does This Misconception Come From?

According to the TikToker, people believe this because they see the same person winning a lot. However, he says that there might be other factors at play, such as that person betting more or just generally being a little luckier.

“I’ve seen a lot of players in my life that cannot hit anything, and I’ve seen a lot of players that win all the time,” he concludes. “It’s just how luck and randomness goes.”

Still, commenters mostly remained skeptical.

“It’s always the some people the ones that can afford to spend thousands in one night,” one wrote.

“It’s a computer. can’t you program a computer to do whatever you want?” another asked.

A third user, however, seemed to believe the TikToker, as they noted that “if people understand math and the design of these games then they will see the casino doesn’t need to cheat.”

The TikToker didn’t immediately respond to BroBible’s request for comment via TikTok comment. The clip amassed 584,000 views.

Is He Right?

The answer is yes. Per Poker News, all reputable and licensed casinos are required to rely solely on Random Number Generator (RNG) technology. In essence, the RNG is an algorithm that generates random number sequences. These sequences, in turn, determine the outcome of every spin. If a slot machine doesn’t use RNG technology, it risks losing its license. Integrity is important.

But that doesn’t mean casinos don’t benefit from this. Most slot machines also have a “house edge.” This is a built-in mathematical advantage that helps guarantee a profit for casinos in the long run. However, it’s important to note that this doesn’t involve any rigging and doesn’t go against any regulations.
