Warner Bros Discovery, the divisive parent company of HBO — for example, recently deciding to re-name its streaming service HBO Max — has announced the lead trio of actors that will feature in its upcoming Harry Potter series.
According to the press release from WBD., the lead cast of its Harry Potter is as follows: Dominic McLaughlin will star in the role of Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger, and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley. All three are newcomers as actors.
Reports indicate that the production auditioned over 30,000 child actors for the coveted lead roles in the Harry Potter series, which HBO reportedly wants to run for a decade as it covers all seven books in the series.

“After an extraordinary search led by casting directors Lucy Bevan and Emily Brockmann, we are delighted to announce we have found our Harry, Hermione, and Ron. The talent of these three unique actors is wonderful to behold, and we cannot wait for the world to witness their magic together onscreen. We would like to thank all the tens of thousands of children who auditioned. It’s been a real pleasure to discover the plethora of young talent out there,” said showrunner/EP Francesca Gardiner and director/EP Mark Mylod in a statement.
The lead trio of actors playing Harry, Hermione and Ron join the previously cast Jon Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, Janet McTeer as Professor McGonagall, and Nick Frost as Hagrid. HBO’s Harry Potter will soon begin production ahead of its planned release in 2026.
The original Harry Potter film franchise — not counting the disappoint Fantastic Beasts prequels — released eight films from 2001 to 2011, and featured Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint in the lead roles.
Beyond the scope of movies, the Harry Potter franchise (or the Wizarding World franchise, encompassing book sales, video games, stage plays, merch, etc.) is one of the most successful in the history of media, having grossed over $34 billion.
