In late February, a Hawaiian helicopter crash landed on a remote beach in Kauai after losing power to the engine. Miraculously, everyone on the helicopter survived and only one of the passengers suffered an injury (back injury) and were taken to the hospital for treatment.

The incident occurred in the middle of the afternoon with 4 passengers and a pilot onboard. The helicopter was operated by Jack Harter Helicopters out of Lihue and the company has been cooperating with Hawaiian authorities after an investigation was launched.

A little over a week after the Honopu Beach crash on February 27th, new footage has emerged from one of the passengers. In it, we see the moments leading up to the helicopter crash on the beach including when the helicopter lost engine power and rotation. The video was shared by Air Rescue Systems on Instagram and has since made its way to X and TikTok with people astounded by the footage.

Just an absolutely wild video to capture. Seeing the exact moment the engine gave out and the Hawaiian helicopter crashed and more importantly, the moment they all survived, is surreal.

And for the skeptics out there wondering ‘why was this person filming?’ This is exactly what you do on a helicopter tour like this even if you never watch those videos again. It’s smartphone instinct. Also, the same video can be found on X, formerly Twitter, if Instagram isn’t loading. It can also be found on YouTube for anyone who would like to watch the Hawaiian helicopter crash again:

According to Hawaii News Now, the passenger who was hospitalized due to a back injury had been released from the hospital.

And from a Kauai County press release, we learned that Jack Harter Helicopters in Hawaii were able to retrieve the wreckage from Honopu Beach within 24 hours.

Hopefully, officials will be able to use the footage of this crash for training purposes as it appears to be a miracle everyone on board survived given how high the helicopter was when the engine lost power.
