Hasan Piker has been unbanned on Twitch just one day after calling for the death of politician Rick Scott, something he claims was a comment made in hyperbole.
As one of the biggest political commentators on Twitch, Piker has seen no shortage of controversy in his streaming career. His hard stances on political issues have earned him equal parts ire and fanfare over the years.
However, a recent comment on stream got him banned from Twitch. In a video titled “I got cancelled.”, Hasan explained the reason behind his comments about the politician, saying that he doesn’t actually want him to be killed, adding that he’ll try to be more careful with his words in the future.
And, less than a day after his Twitch ban, he’s been welcomed back to the platform.
Hasan Piker unbanned after just one day
In criticizing Republican House of Representatives member Mike Johnson, Piker claimed that the way he wanted to go about fixing Medicaid wasn’t correct.
“If you cared about Medicare or Medicaid fraud, you would kill Rick Scott,” Hasan claimed. In his YouTube video explaining this clip, Hasan admitted this was out of line.
“Ok, so obviously I shouldn’t have used hyperbolic language, and there’s definitely some ownership I must take,” he stated.
“I should not have said, ‘Mike Johnson should kill Rick Scott’, I should have simply said that Mike Johnson should punish Rick Scott.”
Hasan then explained his issues with Scott and why he got heated in the moment, explaining why he felt inclined to use extreme language in relation to the issue.
At the end of the video, he vowed to try and use “more deliberate and more careful language” on heated topics such as these to keep others from believing he’d take violent action toward others.
“I shouldn’t have used the term, ‘kill.’ I should have used the term either capital punishment or just punishment in general. But, once again, I’ve let you down. I’ve used hyperbolic language, and that hyperbolic language has brought trouble my way.
“As one of the largest progressive leftist political content creators online, in what feels like is a sea of reactionary sentiment, I promise you I will try to use more deliberate and more careful language going forward.”
Less than 24 hours after the ban and around 12 hours after the release of his YouTube video addressing Twitch’s administrative action against him, Hasan Piker was unbanned from the platform.
