Canadian indie rock band based in Montreal, Quebec, Half Moon Run, have returned with “You Can Let Go,” their first new music of 2023. The single comes from their new label BMG, and in celebration of the release, they’ve announced new shows in North America on top of European dates which were previously released.
“You Can Let Go” is a sweeping, driving sonic trip that, at first, calls back to their earlier unstoppable songs and which evolves and creates more space to showcase the transcendent harmonious they’ve become known for in later years.
“In the back of my mind was a beautiful, truthful shouting,” said Half Moon Run’s Devon Portielje, “A tumultuous, transformative journey through the dark places of the mind towards, hopefully, the light.”
Portielje is joined on the track– which was produced by Conner Seidel at Treehouse Studio– with his Half Moon Run bandmates Conner Molander and Dylan Phillips. The lyric video, which was shared in conjunction with the song, was directed by Alex Tomlinson.
Since the pandemic and their last album, 2019’s A Blemish in the Great Light; they’ve released two EPs and a collection of reworked older songs. They also won two Juno Awards for Adult Alternative Album of the Year in 2020 for A Blemish in the Great Light and again in 2022 for their EP Inwards & Onwards.
Despite their success since the last release, they’ve been kept from doing what many feel is their greatest strength: performing live. Since their inception, they’ve played shows live and their use of layered percussion, collective vocal harmonies, and the fact that each member is able to play multiple instruments during their live performances swiftly set them apart from other acts.
The newly announced tour dates set for North America will kick off at the El Rey Theater in Los Angeles on Oct. 24. They’ll stop in cities like San Francisco, Portland, Ore., Vancouver, Philadelphia, New York, Boston, Toronto, Montreal and more through Dec. 18.
For the tour, the band has again partnered with Plus1. 1$ from each ticket sale will go to the Syrian American Medical Society, a U.S.- based charity that has been actively providing medical care in Syria since 1998.
A fan ticket pre-sale will commence on March 7, a Spotify pre-sale will start the following day on March 8 and the general ticket on-sale will open this Friday, March 10. Find tickets and learn more here.
