Ahead of their much-anticipated new ‘Saviors’ album, Green Day played a surprise set inside a subway station last night (January 16).
The band began their acoustic set – which looks set to be a feature on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon (why else would the TV host have been there, wielding a tambourine?) – wearing disguises.
Once their anonymity was lifted, after a cover of Bad Company’s ‘(Feel Like Makin’ Love)’, they burst into some of their favourites and some newbies, with renditions of ‘Basket Case’, ‘Look Ma, No Brains!’, ‘Dilemma’, ‘American Idiot’, and another cover thrown in there: KISS’ ‘Rock And Roll All Nite’.
Check out the fan footage below, which took place on the platform of the 47th–50th Streets, Rockefeller Center station subway, and began like this:
Until eventually…
‘Saviors’ will mark Green Day’s first full-length release since 2020’s ‘Father Of All Motherfuckers’ and has so far been preceded by a handful of singles, including a behind-the-scenes video into the making of ‘Dilemma’.
It seems Billie Joe Armstrong and co. have a habit of putting on gigs in small venues, having played a show in a London pub towards the end of last year.
