Beyoncé is looking to secure her first Grammy nominations in the dance/electronic music categories. Voting for the 2023 Grammy Awards begins today, and the ballot reveals that Renaissance was submitted for Album of the Year and Best Dance/Electronic Album. Similarly, “Break My Soul” was submitted for Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best Dance/Electronic Recording.
In addition to attempting to compete in the general and dance/electronic categories, Beyoncé submitted music for R&B consideration: “Heated” and “Virgo’s Groove” are eligible for Best R&B Performance, while “Cuff It” was submitted for Best R&B Song.
Beyoncé is the winningest female artist in Grammys history, having taken home 28 awards throughout her career. She’s been nominated 79 times, getting nods in the general categories, as well as the R&B, pop, rap, and rock categories, and more.
In a statement with Renaissance’s release, Beyoncé acknowledged the electronic and dance music forbears who inspired her. “A big thank you to my Uncle Johnny,” she wrote in reference to a late relative. “He was my godmother and the first person to expose me to a lot of the music and culture that serve as inspiration for this album. Thank you to all of the pioneers who originate culture, to all of the fallen angels whose contributions have gone unrecognized for far too long. This is a celebration for you.”
