Goose released the latest single, “Thatch,” from their forthcoming album, Everything Must Go, due on Friday, April 25, 2025, via No Coincidence Records. A live staple since its November 13, 2022, debut at the Cool Insuring Arena in Glens Falls, N.Y., the studio version demonstrates the four-piece band’s ability to produce a range of tones and textures instrumentally and vocally.
A well-paced and energetic musical entry, “Thatch” exemplifies the band’s ability to strike a groove and evoke a more profound message amidst pockets of instrumentation–entry points for jam territory in the live setting. “We’re often surrounded in one way or another by voices that encourage us to fit in, and stay on beaten paths,” Mitarotonda says. “The song’s about believing in and staying committed to whatever strange and interesting ideas might be kicking around in us.”
The guitarist says, “There are always little ideas and melodies getting stowed away into voice memos on my phone. ‘Thatch’ started as one of those.” After explaining the song’s backstory, Mitartonda adds context: “It was sitting around as an idea like that for a while, then came together relatively quickly during a transitional period in late 2022.”
“Thatch” arrives after the band’s previously unveiled singles, “Lead Up,” “Give It Time,” and the previously dropped “Your Direction,” as well as accompanying music videos for formerly named tracks. Everything Must Go represents Goose’s fourth studio album, which follows the critically-acclaimed 2022 set, Dripfield.
Everything Must Go draws from the effect of the band’s live performances–an energetic and explorative musical experience with consideration of their own history and the growth expended in the process.
