Like Batman and Superman, or Woody and Buzz Lightyear, it’s fair to say that Godzilla and Kong didn’t exactly start out as friends. In fact, there is a lot of destroyed real estate to show just how much they did not like each other. But in the upcoming Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, the atomic lizard and the king of Skull Island are, if not friends, then at least frenemies. They are united together to stop an even bigger threat from wreaking havoc on the world. These longtime mortal enemies have finally switched to buddy cops (with the power to level several city blocks).
Now, to celebrate the upcoming release of Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, Mutant is releasing several new posters honoring the pair of iconic kaiju. (Four of the former Creative Directors from Mondo formed the company Mutant, along with SpectreVision.) Each of these new Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire posters goes on sale on Thursday, March 28. The sale starts at 10am PT/12pm CT/1pm ET. You can order them at madebymutant.com. Check out the images and details for each new poster below.
Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire
This first incredible Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire poster comes in two variants: an aesthetic red and bold white. The artwork for the poster is done by Phantom City Creative. The Regular Edition (Red) has an edition of 140. Meanwhile, the Variant Edition (White) has an edition of 65. The posters are a 24″x36″ screenprint. “Bow to the new King.” They declare. Well, what we are really bowing to is the majesty of these Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire posters.
The second Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire poster from Mutant features artwork by Francesco Francavilla. It brings to life Godzilla, Kong, and their newest enemy, the Skar King, in a flurry of color and motion. This 24″x36″ screenprint has an edition of 165.
Will this new partnership between iconic monsters last? With their history of rivalry, we’d say probably not. We expect these two to go back to throwing each other into buildings at any minute. So we say enjoy this Lethal Weapon version of Godzilla and Kong while it lasts. And with these new Godzilla x Kong posters from Mutant, you’ll always have something commemorating that one time that these two put their issues aside and decided something else needed to get beat up more than each other.
