Disney and Lucasfilm have announced that they have settled their lawsuit with former The Mandalorian actor Gina Carano. Carano sued the companies claiming that she was fired in 2021 for expressing right-wing views.

According to reports out of Los Angeles, the two sides submitted a federal filing on Thursday stipulating that the case — which was scheduled to go to trial in February of next year — should be dismissed with prejudice.

While the specific terms of the agreement were not disclosed, Disney did indicate they were “looking forward” to “identifying opportunities” to work together in the future. Given the general tone of Disney’s statement, it certainly seems as though Carano got the better of the monolithic media behemoth.

Disney and Lucasfilm settle lawsuit with former The Mandalorian actress Gina Carano

“The Walt Disney Company and Lucasfilm are pleased to announce that we have reached an agreement with Gina Carano to resolve the issues in her pending lawsuit against the companies. Ms. Carano was always well respected by her directors, co-stars, and staff, and she worked hard to perfect her craft while treating her colleagues with kindness and respect,” the Walt Disney Company said in a statement.

“With this lawsuit concluded, we look forward to identifying opportunities to work together with Ms. Carano in the near future,” they continued.

Carano’s lawsuit, which was reportedly partly backed by Elon Musk, alleged wrongful termination and discriminatory treatment relating to the actress being fired from The Mandalorian in 2021 due to posts she made on social media. On Instagram, Carano shared a post that compared the treatment of conservatives in 2020’s America to that of Jewish people in 1930s-40s Nazi Germany.

“I’d like to thank you all for your unrelenting support throughout my life and career, you’ve been the heartbeat that has kept my story alive. I hope to make you proud,” Carano said in her own statement. “I am excited to flip the page and move onto the next chapter. My desires remain in the arts, which is where I hope you will join me.”

Despite her seemingly getting the better of Lucasfilm and Disney, it’s unlikely that Carano returns to the Star Wars universe, particularly with the prospect of next summer’s The Mandalorian & Grogu movie bringing an end to that chapter of the Star Wars saga.
