Ghostbusters: Afterlife saw Gozer and her Terror Dogs return to Earth. It also saw the original squad of specter hunters suit up to help stop her once more. But their rematch took place far away from the spot of their first battle, New York City. We only got a brief glimpse of the franchise’s true home in the film. That’s going to change in the sequel. The latest trailer for Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire turns the City That Never Sleeps into The City That’s Always Frozen. That is unless two generations can unite once again to save the world from an evil spirit.
Unfortunately, that demonic being is not the only enemy they’ll have to face. Another old foe is also returning to the series in Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire and William Atherton’s Walter Peck is still not a believer.
Walter Peck! And also a pretty evil ghost, yeah…but Walter Peck, the franchise’s actual best villain. And if he hated the Ghostbusters before, he’s really not gonna like them when they have so many new members. (Especially if he’s the mayor, as this Frozen Empire trailer suggests.) Old and new ‘busters alike will truly need unite, too, if they want to put stop one of their greatest threats ever.
Here’s the film’s official synopsis from Sony Pictures:
In Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, the Spengler family returns to where it all started – the iconic New York City firehouse – to team up with the original Ghostbusters, who’ve developed a top-secret research lab to take busting ghosts to the next level. But when the discovery of an ancient artifact unleashes an evil force, Ghostbusters new and old must join forces to protect their home and save the world from a second Ice Age.
Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire comes from the same duo behind Afterlife. Jason Reitman and Gil Kenan once again co-wrote the script. Unlike with Afterlife, though, Kenan is the one in the director’s chair this time around. Kenan did have the same incredible cast to work with. The film stars Paul Rudd, Carrie Coon, Finn Wolfhard, Mckenna Grace, Kumail Nanjiani, Patton Oswalt, Celeste O’Connor, Logan Kim, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Annie Potts, and Bill Murray.
Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire skates, skis, and sleds into theaters this spring on March 29, 2024. At least it will if Walter Peck doesn’t get his way.
