On Friday, June 28, members of The Meters and others gathered to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the iconic group’s fifth studio album, the 1974 release Rejuvenation. The specialty performance was led by New Orleans funk figures Dumpstaphunk, with bassist George Porter Jr. and guitarist Leo Nocentelli paying homage to their classic music set.
Rejuvenation served as the night’s centerpiece, with its sage material’s sonic course through the revered Port Chester, N.Y. venue, highlighting the night. Notably, the original record was produced by New Orleans icon Allen Toussaint, who also added horns to some of the original tracks. Considered a classic, the album was ranked 138 out of 500 on Rolling Stone Magazine’s list of the greatest albums of all time–further cementing its prestige.
Besides Friday night’s aforementioned contributors, Brass Queens, the Brooklyn, N.Y.-based eight-piece all-female brass band, supported the celebratory gathering. On location was photographer Dino Perrucci, who shared choice shots from the concert. Scroll down to view.
