George Miller Teases “Another” ‘Mad Max’ Sequel If “Planets Align”

George Miller Teases "Another" 'Mad Max' Sequel If "Planets Align"

George Miller is flirting with the idea of taking another trip down Fury Road.

Following his 2015 franchise reboot Mad Max: Fury Road (2015) and last year’s Furiosa prequel, the Oscar winner recently revealed he has another installment he’d like to make “if for whatever reason the planets align,” but he has a few other projects on deck.

“We’ve got another script,” he told Vulture of his Mad Max plans. “But having been doing this long enough where I’m habituated to storytelling, I find myself with way too many stories — not only in my head, but in the form of screenplays or at least very detailed notes that are within reach of screenplays. I’m a professional daydreamer, really. This was seen as my big deficit as a kid: ‘George would do better at school if he didn’t daydream so much’ was on my report card.”

Miller added, “So, there’s lots of stories. Indeed, one of them is a Mad Max. It is not something I would do next, because there;s two things I’m keen to do next. But if for whatever reason the planets align, you can never tell. Too often, you’re lining up to do a movie and then something happens. Some things fall into place and some don’t, so all I can say is we’ll see.”

Starring Tom Hardy as the titular road warrior, Fury Road sees the previously enslaved Max Rockatansky help Imperator Furiosa (Charlize Theron) escape with the tyrannical Immortan Joe’s (Hugh Keays-Byrne) five captive wives. The sequel also stars Nicholas Hoult, Riley Keough, Zoë Kravitz and Courtney Eaton.

Hardy has expressed doubts about returning for a rumored prequel The Wasteland, following behind-the-scenes drama between himself and Theron. “I don’t think that’s happening,” he told Forbes in June.

Last year, Anya Taylor-Joy took over Theron’s role in the Miller-helmed prequel Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, which also stars Chris Hemsworth.

Mel Gibson led the original trilogy created by Miller and Byron Kennedy, which includes Mad Max (1979), Mad Max 2 (1981) and Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome (1985).
