General Hospital (GH) spoilers reveal that fans are still reeling from some shocking recast news, so everyone’s asking the same question right now: Why is Chris McKenna replacing Charles Mesure as Jack Brennan?
According to a GH rep who spoke with SOD, Charles Mesure made the decision to leave the role behind.
That seemingly forced the show to slide someone else in the part quickly, which set the stage for Chris McKenna’s hire.
GH has a history of recasting high-profile roles with soap vets – and McKenna definitely has experience in daytime TV.
Some soap fans may remember McKenna from his 1990-to-1993 run as Joey Buchanan on One Life to Live.
McKenna also played Mark Harding on The Young and the Restless from 2014 to 2015 – and then he appeared briefly as a therapist named Dr. Hayden on The Bold and the Beautiful in 2016.
Although McKenna has been out of the soap game for a while, he spoke to TV Insider about his excitement and insisted he wasn’t intimidated about the amount of dialogue he had to learn.
It was like riding a bike since McKenna was used to handling a lot of material in the past.
McKenna also talked about the fast hiring process, which started with a request from GH Executive Producer Frank Valentini – who previously served as the executive producer on One Life to Live.
“I got word late on a Sunday night that Frank Valentini wanted me to chemistry read with Laura Wright, McKenna said. “I know Laura, but I hadn’t seen her in 30 years, so I said, ‘Well, of course, I’ll be there.’”
A couple days later, McKenna was embracing Wright at the studio, where he spent some time catching up with her.
Wright wished McKenna luck – and once they had their chemistry read, he felt good about how it went.
Of course, McKenna was obviously right about that since he scored the part!
Although Chris McKenna might seem like an odd choice to replace Charles Mesure, he’ll certainly bring a unique flavor to Brennan and deserves a chance to make the role his own.
Brennan and Carly’s love story will move forward – at least for now – so we’ll pass along more predictions on how things will continue to heat up between them.
You can catch McKenna as Jack Brennan starting Tuesday, February 4.
General Hospital spoilers say Jack Brennan’s secrets will remain a problem as his storyline moves along, so stay tuned for updates on what’s brewing for the character.
