General Hospital (GH) spoilers reveal that Austin Gatlin-Holt (Roger Howarth) was at the center of a cliffhanger that had everyone talking about the November 17 episode. It’s led to questions about Austin’s fate, so let’s talk about the horrible situation he landed in.
After Austin told Dante Falconeri (Dominic Zamprogna) that he’d reveal his boss’ name in exchange for immunity, he also agreed to provide evidence to back up his claims.
Austin seemed relieved to finally be doing the right thing for once and headed off to retrieve the proof he promised.
However, Austin faced an offscreen gunman, who promptly fired two bullets in him.
Austin looked awfully dead as his mysterious assailant walked away, so is that the end of the road for the character?
Once the show killed off Franco Baldwin (Roger Howarth) and brought Austin on instead, they immediately struggled to find a proper place for the doc on canvas.
Austin was given a Quartermaine connection, but it was pointless considering he never felt like a Quartermaine at all and never became a real part of that world.
Of course, we can’t forget about Austin’s bland romance with Maxie Jones (Kirsten Storms), which wasn’t a popular pairing with fans.
Although Austin had a bit more of a spark with Ava Jerome (Maura West), the story of him working for Cyrus Renault (Jeff Kober) has been messy and honestly never felt like a great fit either.
Has the show finally decided to end Austin’s run and just give up on this character’s future in Port Charles?
Austin certainly looked like a goner when viewers last saw him – and the November 20 episode won’t even pick up where that one left off.
It’ll be the next morning, so fans won’t see any dramatic effort to race Austin to the hospital before he bleeds out.
Someone might find Austin offscreen and save him like with Nikolas Cassadine (Adam Huss), but this really felt like more of a conclusion to Austin’s storyline.
It seems more likely somebody will come along and find Austin’s corpse much too late to rescue him.
If Austin was killed off, does that mean Roger Howarth is out at GH?
It’s possible Howarth could debut as yet another character, but that might be a bad plan since they obviously couldn’t make Austin work.
If they had better ideas on how to use Howarth, they probably would’ve used them already.
It’s also worth mentioning that Howarth recently joined Instagram and has been sharing lots of behind-the-scenes photos with fellow cast members.
It sort of feels like Howarth has already been saying a subtle goodbye, so maybe this is truly the end of the line for him at GH.
