General Hospital (GH) spoilers reveal that big changes are happening in the writing department at the ABC soap. Soap Opera Digest confirms that the show has fired GH Co-Head Writers Chris Van Etten and Dan O’Connor, so another duo is taking over.
Patrick Mulcahey and Elizabeth Korte are set to become the show’s new co-head writers, so let’s hope they can bring some fresh ideas and perspectives to Port Charles.
General Hospital could definitely use a reboot right about now, which is why many fans are already celebrating this news on social media.
It feels like the show’s been stuck on certain topics like Carly Spencer (Laura Wright) and Nina Corinthos’ (Cynthia Watros) feud for years, so maybe having a new pair in charge of the writing will prove to be the right call.
As for the people taking over, Patrick Mulcahey was a GH script writer back in 1996 before becoming an associate head writer and breakdown writer from 1998-1999.
In addition, Mulcahey worked on the writing team at Search for Tomorrow, Texas, Loving and Santa Barbara.
Fans may also remember Mulcahey’s time at Guiding Light, where he served as the show’s head writer in 1982.
Mulcahey then returned to Guiding Light from 1992-1994, which led to him moving from script and breakdown writer to the co-head writer position during his last year there.
Mulcahey eventually made his way to The Bold and the Beautiful, where he served as a script and story consultant from 2005 to 2019.
Now Mulcahey is sliding in the co-head writer spot at General Hospital, so plenty of viewers will want to give him a warm welcome along with the newly promoted Elizabeth Korte.
You’ve probably seen Korte’s name in the credits since she’s been on the show’s writing team since 1994.
Korte served as a co-head writer in 2001, but she’s had other positions over the years – including script editor starting in 2008.
You might also remember that Korte co-created and co-head wrote the General Hospital spinoff called GH: Night Shift with Robert Guza, Jr.
It’s exciting to see that the show’s making some updates to the co-head writing job at GH, so we’ll look forward to seeing the new direction that Patrick Mulcahey and Elizabeth Korte usher in.
General Hospital spoilers say the scripts that Chris Van Etten and Dan O’Connor supervised will continue airing through March, but Mulcahey and Korte’s work isn’t too far away!
