Garbage Unveil New Song "Get Out My Face AKA Bad Kitty"

Garbage are back to share their new song “Get Out My Face AKA Bad Kitty.”

“Get Out My Face AKA Bad Kitty” serves as the latest single for Garbage’s upcoming new album Let All That We Imagine Be the Light, which arrives on May 30th. It’s a thumping, brooding new track from the LA-based rockers, with vocalist Shirley Manson skewering an unnamed toxic character and railing against the ongoing war on women in America.

“You have your big dick/ We’re just little fish/ But every wave will wash away,” Manson warns before launching into a furious chorus: “Get out my face/ Don’t mess with me/ We’re exhausted (get out),” later announcing “You won’t respect us/ I’ll make you fear us” and “If you can’t join ‘em/ You gotta beat ‘em.” Meanwhile, the band plays a taut, menacing groove that mutates into a moody guitar solo for the bridge and outro. In a press release, Manson digs deeper into the themes behind “Get Out My Face AKA Bad Kitty”: “When I was young, I didn’t really notice how things worked,” Manson said. “People like to shuffle older women off the lot, because you start to see the chessboard in a way you didn’t when you were younger. When you’re young, you’re wanting to get on with your life, have an adventure, do what you love, and you’re conditioned by the society that you grew up in, so a lot of the time you don’t see what’s going on. Then, as you get older, you start to see how things are stacked up against some of us – not all of us.”

“I am outraged by the way the world treats blacks and browns and gays and trans peoples and animals and women. Living in America over the last couple of years, the absolute war on women in America is astounding. All the rights that we felt had been secured are starting to get pushed back into the Middle Ages. It is something that I can no longer tolerate silently. It’s not just infuriating, it’s alarming. It’s frightening.”

While “Get Out My Face AKA Bad Kitty” features some heavy themes, Let All That We Imagine Be the Light isn’t all doom and gloom (as its title suggests). Manson claimed that the new album sees her “determined to find a more hopeful, uplifting world to immerse myself in,” a topic highlighted by the ironically-titled prior single, “There’s No Future In Optimism.” The album arrives on May 30th; pre-order your copy here.
