Bad news for Jon Snow fans: Kit Harington has revealed the Game of Thrones spinoff series revolving around his character is no longer in active development.
In an interview with ScreenRant, Harington said the project is “off the table” — for now at least. Explaining that he didn’t want to comment on the show’s status while it was still in development, the actor said they haven’t been able to “find the right story to tell.”
“I didn’t want it leaked out that it was being developed, and I didn’t want the thing to happen where people kind of start theorizing, getting either excited about it or hating the idea of it, when it may never happen,” Harington said. “Because in development, you look at every angle, and you see whether it’s worth it. And currently, it’s not.”
He continued, “Currently, it’s off the table, because we all couldn’t find the right story to tell that we were all excited about enough. So, we decided to lay down tools with it for the time being. There may be a time in the future where we return to it, but at the moment, no. It’s firmly on the shelf.”
And while it’s worth noting Harington has previously spoken about the toll playing Jon Snow had on his mental health, it appears that didn’t factor into the decision.
Game of Thrones fans can get their latest fix when House of the Dragon returns for Season 2 in June. Check out the latest trailer.
Plus, there are other potential GoT spinoffs in the works, though the prequel A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight is the only one to receive a series order from HBO.
