Last night, New Orleans powerhouse ensemble Galactic stopped by the legendary Blue Note Jazz Club for the first time in history. The appearance marked the first of five evenings, and 10 performances from the Tipitina’s owners are set up to be joined by the likes of Robert Randolph, Matisyahu and Nicholas Payton throughout the rest of the run and were joined by legendary saxophonist James Carter for their opening performance.
Galactic–comprised of Ben Ellman (saxophone, harmonica), Robert Mercurio (bass), Stanton Moore (drums, percussion), Jeffrey Raines (guitar), and Richard Vogal (keyboards)–were also joined by vocal powerhouse Anjelika “Jelly” Joseph and Eric Gordon who brought the energy of Mardi Gras to New York throughout their performance.
Galactic will continue to perform at the Blue Note Jazz Club through Jan. 29.
