Futurebirds Drop Surprise Halloween-Themed LP on Bandcamp

Today, American indie rock band Futurebirds dropped a surprise Halloween-themed record exclusively on Bandcamp.com. The project is titled Ghoulin’ Around and will go back into the ether on Nov. 1, giving fans only 13 days to enjoy its seven tracks, at least until next Halloween.

Ghoulin’ Around opens with a spooky introduction with menacing whispers, laughter, and screams before the septet – comprised of Thomas Johnson, Daniel Womack, Carter King, Brannen Miles, Kiffy Myers, Tom Myers and Spencer Thomas – dive into five covers and two original songs. The list of artists they cover includes Diarrhea Planet, Roky Erickson, Pink Floyd and the Rolling Stones. Their originals are titled “Vampire Nights” and “Demons Inside.”

Of the project, Futurebirds said the two originals and five covers are “very near and dear to our black, decrepit hearts… but after the long dark night of All Hallows’ Eve, this record is retreating back to the netherworld until next Halloween, so make sure to download it if you want to hold onto its dark powers.”

The seasonal project was recorded at R.A.R.E. records in Winchester, Tenn., with overdubs at Huge Planet and Tom Myers’ Eat, Pray, Record in Nashville, Tenn. It was produced by Freon Fighters, Engineered by Michael Lee and mixed by Cartez and Tom Myers and mastered by Jeff Vernon. Interestingly the cover art was created by A.I. Intelligence and Dead Drift Technologies.
