There is not a single actor in Hollywood over the last decade or so whose had as meteoric of a rise as Pedro Pascal. 10 years ago, he was a supporting character on Game of Thrones — now, he leads franchises for Marvel, Star Wars, and HBO, while also appearing in director-driven projects like Gladiator II, Eddington, Materialists, and his latest film, Freaky Tales.
Speaking to Freaky Tales directors Ryan Fleck and Anna Boden — who certainly know a thing or two about working with A-lister movie stars, having previously directed Ryan Gosling in Half Nelson and Ryan Reynolds in Mississippi Grind — BroBible asked what it is about Pedro Pascal’s work and talent as an actor that has made him such a massive star.
According to Boden, its Pascal’s ability to be both an extremely natural/human performer while also being able to tap into traditional archetypes (what’s she describing is basically what he does in The Last of Us.
“He has such a natural presence. He’s able to be extremely human and really tap into things that make him human and connectable, but also tap into cinematic archetypes at the same time without being just one or the othe,” Anna Boden tells us.
“He can be a really complex human being but also play something that works as an archetypical character. I think that’s what really works for him in this story and in general. I don’t know if that makes sense to you, but that really speaks to me. I think it’s partly because he loves movies and television and film so much—he really is a film lover.”
