Chappell Roan fever is still going round, and Franz Ferdinand is feeling the heat. On Wednesday, the band covered Roan’s smash hit, “Good Luck, Babe!”

The cover came as part of their performance on a Sofa Session with Jo Whiley for BBC Radio 2. Splitting up Roan’s vocals into a multi-part, call-and-response arrangement, the band brought their alt rock sensibilities to the song, illustrating the versatility of its writing.

Speaking about it, frontman Alex Kapranos said, “It’s just an amazing song by an incredible artist. It’s funny, you get some artists that have a moment, often it’s kind of divisive. Some people absolutely love them and some people hate them. But I’ve not come across anybody I know — none of my friends, nobody I know — who doesn’t like this artist. They’re just so good. This song’s incredible so we’re going to play it.”

Meanwhile, Franz Ferdinand recently announced a new album titled The Human Fear — due on January 10th via Domino — and released the single “Night or Day” earlier this month.

Up next, the band will wrap up 2024 with a string of US dates, followed by a full 2025 tour across North America, stopping in Vancouver, San Francisco, Kansas City, Minneapolis, Philadelphia, Brooklyn, Boston, and more cities. Get tickets here.

As for Roan, she recently debuted a new song, “The Giver,” on Saturday Night Live. Plus, Franz Ferdinand aren’t the only ones covering her — earlier this month, Weird Al teamed up with Will Forte for a cover of “HOT TO GO!”
