It took four seasons and five years, but the people that the Prime Video series The Boys is making fun of have finally realized it and are review-bombing the series on Rotten Tomatoes in return.
Season 4 of The Boys, which premiered on Prime Video on June 13, currently has a 52% audience score, which is the lowest in the history of the series. For comparison, season 3 had a 75% audience score, season two had an 83%, and season one had a 90%.
If you look through social media, it isn’t hard to figure out why, as the people the show has been making jokes about for half a decade have finally understood that they’re the target.
“It took some people 4 seasons to realize The Boys was making fun of them the whole time,” said a tweet with over 25 million views.
“The Boys is a good show but watching people on here figure out The Boys was making fun of them the whole time is an even better show,” said another viral tweet.
“LMAOOOOOOOO the incels finally find out they’re the baddies and now they’re throwing a fit. This is why I don’t give a flying f— about audience scores,” a popular post about the low audience rating read.
Soon after the premiere of season four of The Boys, it was announced that the series was renewed by Prime Video for a fifth season, which will also be its final. The spinoff series Gen V, which premiered in October 2023 and has similarly strong reviews, has also been renewed for a second season.
The Boys, which is based on the comic book series of the same name — created by Eric Kripke, who also serves as showrunner — stars Karl Urban, Jack Quaid, Antony Starr, Erin Moriarty, Dominique McElligott, Jessie T. Usher, Chace Crawford, Laz Alonso, Tomer Capone, Karen Fukuhara, and Nathan Mitchell.
