Using the bathroom at a fast food establishment usually isn’t the most pleasant experience, but one man in Florida had a particularly disgusting experience that led to him filing a lawsuit against Dunkin’ after ending up on the receiving end of a toilet explosion.
Ordering coffee at Dunkin‘ will usually result in a trip to the bathroom sooner rather than later, but one customer who stopped by a location in Winter Park, Florida on January 6, 2022 needed to do his business during the visit only to get a very unpleasant surprise shortly after entering the restroom.
According to The New York Post, the guy in question was perched atop the porcelain throne when he ended up “covered with debris, including human feces and urine” after the toilet suddenly erupted while he was still in the restroom.
The alleged incident was detailed in a lawsuit that was recently filed in Florida’s 9th Judicial District that asserts employees told him they knew there were “problems with the toilet” after he exited the men’s room and asked for their help when it came to addressing the fallout of the explosion.
The filing states the man is seeking $50,000 after claiming he suffered “bodily injury and psychological damages” due to what unfolded while adding he’s needed to pay for “mental health care and counseling as a direct result of the trauma.”
It would be easy to dismiss the lawsuit as frivolous given the amount of money the plaintiff is hoping to get, but I honestly can’t say I blame him.
I’ve thankfully never been in a position where a geyser of raw sewage erupted from a toilet in a public restroom while I was standing next to it, but $50K seems like a fairly tiny sum based on the mental scarring I feel like you’d end up dealing with as a result.
