Just another day in Florida, right? Well, as a Florida Man myself I can tell you this is something I am constantly living on high alert for but have yet to experience myself: finding an alligator in the swimming pool.
There are alligators everywhere in Florida. It is just a fact of life. They can be found from the Florida Keys to the south up north through every town and county in the Sunshine State and Ponte Vedra Beach to the southeast of Jacksonville (where TPC Sawgrass is located) is no exception.
This incident took place in Ponte Vedre Beach, Florida on Sunday where Edward McClamma woke up to find a big ol’ alligator at the bottom of his swimming pool trying to beat the heat. Any Florida Man who has a pool without a pool cage, myself included, lives with the thought in the back of his head that some day he could wake up to an alligator swimming in it and that’s exactly what happened here.
Florida, like every other state east of Colorado, is getting pummeled by the Heat Dome right now. The only difference is that in Florida the heat won’t abate until some time in November and the only ‘relief’ from suffocating Summer temps will come during tropical storms and hurricanes but that brief reprieve will be followed by weather that feels even muggier. That’s always my experience at least.
While finding an alligator in the swimming pool is a rare occurrence it is most certainly not unheard of. The same goes for crocs in Florida! It was just a few months ago that FWC officers were called in to remove a massive crocodile from a swimming pool in Key Largo:
Imagine being the officer on duty tasked with removing a massive saltwater crocodile from a swimming pool. Then imagine the only item they give you to protect yourself from the enormous dinosaur is a shovel….
Ultimately, that was a successful operation. The huge croc was scurried off to the nearby canal and back into the saltwater.
