FKA twigs and Nicolas Cage have both been cast in The Carpenter’s Son, an upcoming film by Egyptian American director Lotfy Nathan. The movie puts a horror spin on the story of Jesus’ childhood, according to Deadline, and also stars Noah Jupe and Souheila Yacoub. Cinenovo and Spacemaker are producing, and shooting begins this summer.
“The Carpenter’s Son tells the dark story of a family hiding out in Roman Egypt,” the official synopsis reads, according to Deadline. “The son, known only as ‘the Boy,’ is driven to doubt by another mysterious child and rebels against his guardian, the Carpenter, revealing inherent powers and a fate beyond his comprehension. As he exercises his own power, the Boy and his family become the target of horrors, natural and divine.”
Nathan’s debut feature film, Harka, premiered in Cannes’ Un Certain Regard in 2022. Previously, he directed 12 O’Clock Boys, a 2014 documentary about a young boy in Baltimore who idolizes a group of dirt bike riders, which won him the HBO Emerging Artist award.
FKA twigs has been on an acting streak since releasing Caprisongs in 2022. She stars alongside Bill Skarsgård in Rupert Sanders’ remake of the 1994 cult classic The Crow, which comes out in August.
