20th Century Studios has released the first official trailer for Predator: Badlands. The film is directed by Dan Trachtenberg, who most recently helmed the acclaimed Predator prequel Prey, which was released in 2022.

The first trailer for Predator: Badlands confirmed two major facts about the film, one which was previously known to fans and one that’s come as a massive surprise.

The first confirmation is that in this film, the Predator is being framed as the “good guy.” That’s certainly nothing new in sci-fi films, most famously being done in Terminator 2 and copied many times over since then.

A blindside surprise for fans, however, is the fact that Ellie Fanning’s lead character is actually an android. And not only is she an android, but she’s a Weyland Utani android. Weyland-Yutani is the nefarious, galaxy-spanning mega-corp in the Alien franchise.

While a more speculative detail, some movie fans also believe a skull of the alien from Independence Day can be seen in the trailer. Predator, Alien, and Independence Day were all made by 20th Century Fox — which was purchased by Disney in 2019, giving them ownership of all three franchises.

Although there are not any direct or implicit references to Blade Runner in the trailer (at least any that have been spotted), it’s long been speculated that Blade Runner and Alien, both directed by the legendary Ridley Scott, also occur in the same universe. This is a fan-theory that’s gone on for decades and has never been confirmed by Scott, though.

Here is the official synopsis for Predator: Badlands, via 20th Century Studios:

Predator: Badlands, which stars Elle Fanning and Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi, is set in the future on a remote planet, where a young Predator (Schuster-Koloamatangi), outcast from his clan, finds an unlikely ally in Thia (Fanning) and embarks on a treacherous journey in search of the ultimate adversary.”

Predator: Badlands will be released in movie theaters in the United States on Friday, November 7, 2025. The most recent Alien film, 2024’s Alien: Romulus, is now streaming on Disney+.
