First Steps Trailer Welcomes Marvel's First Family

Marvel’s First Family is finally set for launch, as the studio has revealed the first teaser trailer for Fantastic Four: First Steps. Starring Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as the titular quartet, the highly anticipated film opens July 25th. Check out the preview below.

As was previously revealed, the movie takes place in a 1960s-inspired retro-futuristic world where the Fantastic Four (Pascal’s Mister Fantastic, Kirby’s Invisible Woman, Quinn’s Human Torch, and Moss-Bachrach’s The Thing) are already established as heroic adventurers. When the exactly-as-advertised Silver Surfer (Julia Garner) arrives, it heralds the approach of the world-devouring cosmic giant Galactus (Ralph Ineson).

How this all fits into the current MCU Multiverse Saga — alternate reality? Time travel? Historical retcon? — is yet to be seen. But some of the Fantastic Four have already appeared in previous Marvel films: John Krasinski made a fan-cast cameo as Mister Fantastic/Reed Richards in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and Chris Evan’s Human Torch/Johnny Storm was one of many pre-MCU-era characters to appear as in last year’s Deadpool & Wolverine.

The Fantastic Four: First Steps, however, is the team’s major MCU reboot after Marvel regained the rights with its 20th Century Fox acquisition in 2019. Directed by Matt Shakman (WandaVision), the movie also stars Natasha Lyonne, John Malkovich, and Paul Walter Hauser. Rumor has it Robert Downey Jr. may also cameo in his debut as Doctor Doom, as the upcoming Big Bad is primarily an FF villain.
