For longtime comic book movie fans, one of the major perks of Hugh Jackman’s return as Wolverine — other than one of the most beloved superhero portrayals of all time returning to the big screen — was seeing him in a classic X-Men costume for the first time.
While Jackman’s original run as Wolverine spanned 17 years and eight films, the Oscar nominee — and the rest of the universe, in general — were never seen in the traditional yellow and blue X-Men costumes. The original 2000 film famously changed the costumes to all-black leather, in fact.
Though Disney and Marvel Studios were wise enough to keep Jackman’s return as Wolverine held back from the first Deadpool & Wolverine teaser trailer, that didn’t stop them from unveiling Jackman in a Wolverine mask for the first time ever via… promotional artwork at CinemaCon?
With Disney set to present at CinemaCon on Thursday, April 11, a new trailer may be either shown exclusively to those in attendance or released online considering the fact that the film’s premiere is just about 3 months away, which is usually when movie marketing campaigns are kicked off in earnest.
Speaking to BroBible’s Post Credit Podcast, director Matthew Vaughn — who helmed 2011’s X-Men: First Class — said that Deadpool & Wolverine will “jolt [the MCU] back to life.”
“The few snippets that I know about Deadpool vs. Wolverine — or Wolverine vs. Deadpool, I’m sure that argument between Ryan and Hugh is happening as we speak — are unbelievable,” Vaughn said.
“That’s going to be the jolt… the Marvel universe is about to have a jolt of them and it’s going to bring that body back to life… I think Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman are about to save the whole Marvel universe.”
Alongside Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool and Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, Deadpool & Wolverine — which will be released in movie theaters on Friday, July 26 — also stars Emma Corrin, Owen Wilson, Matthew Macfadyen, Morena Baccarin, Brianna Hildebrand, Jennifer Garner, Leslie Uggams, Karan Soni, Stefan Kapičić, Rob Delaney, and more.
