Wednesday guitarist MJ Lenderman has announced his fourth solo studio album. The new LP and follow-up to 2022’s Boat Songs is titled Manning Fireworks, and it’s coming out September 6 via Anti-. Leading the record is Lenderman’s new song “She’s Leaving You,” about a middle-aged man undergoing a midlife crisis. Watch its accompanying music video, a “Smells Like Teen Spirit” and Drop Dead Gorgeous–inspired visual directed by Whitmer Thomas and Clay Tatum, below.
Since Boat Songs, Lenderman shared a live album, And the Wind (Live and Loose!), and reissued his self-titled solo debut.. He recorded his new LP during short, multi-day breaks from touring, holing up at Drop of Sun Studios in his hometown of Asheville, North Carolina, with co-producer and frequent collaborator Alex Farrar.
Lenderman is in high demand these days, with artists like Waxahatchee and Kevin Abstract tapping him to play guitar or sing on their own material. Most recently, he hopped on the new Horse Jumper of Love single “Snow Angel,” from their upcoming album Disaster Trick.
