Grammy Award-winning musician, Grateful Dead legacy drummer, and current backbeat in Dead & Company, Mickey Hart, has framed details behind his impending art exhibition, “Art at the Edge of Magic,” an exposé of his one-of-a-kind vibrational expressionism discipline. The show will open to the public on May 15, 2024, as part of the Dead Forever Experience at The Venetian Resort Las Vegas.
A first-of-its-kind experience, the gallery will showcase Hart’s art forms and mediums, such as breathtaking blacklight immersion, inviting visitors to confront melodic designs paired with bespoken lighting, exhilarated by a sonic wave of drumming and percussions for a multi-sensory trip into the musician’s spirit realm–guided by psychopomps. Video denoting the artist’s process will add to the viewer’s overall understanding of Hart’s practice.
“The basis of all life is vibratory. Creating visual magic is new to me. With my pouring technique I can experience the wonder of chaos and the flow-all the glorious symmetry in one,” projected Hart via a press release, detailing his feelings concerning his artistic approach.
Hart’s “Art at the Edge of Magic” exhibit arrives alongside other assets of the Dead Forever Experience, such as a 1:4 scale recreation of the iconic Wall of Sound, the revolutionary stacked speaker sound system designed by audio engineer Owsley Stanley for the Dead in 1974. The 500-speaker, 7,000-watt multi-channel wall on display was built by Anthony Coscia of “Le Petit Mur De Son.”
SiriusXM Grateful Dead Channel Zone is also on the docket, with the promise of pre-show broadcasts hosted by Gary Lambert, David Gans, and Big Steve Parish throughout opening weekend, with a Thursday, May 16 start date, which will be every Thursday through the residency with the Big Steve Hour.
Participation Row will continue its well-intended mission with help from HeadCount and REVERB to inspire fans to take action through the support of nonprofit groups. An auction will also be available, where folks can bid and support good causes and the continued charitable legacy of Dead & Company.
In addition to the aforementioned offers, Dead Forever Experience will include a retail store where fans can explore a diverse selection of items, such as collector-worthy and exclusive Dead & Company merchandise–show posters, apparel, and accessories. The store will also feature Grateful Dead vinyl and merchandise through James Perse, Teton Gravity Research, and more.
Hart’s exhibit will open on May 15, running Wednesday through Sunday, except Memorial Day Weekend–when it will be open Thursday through Monday. For more information, visit www.mickeyhartart.com.
